Wards Island Engagement

Toronto, Ontario

Soo & Matt’s Wards Island engagement session took place on the same day as the Toronto Raptors Championship parade. Were we crazy to schedule a shoot when thousands (millions?) of fans swarmed the streets and highway ramps to celebrate?? YES, WE ABSOLUTELY WERE. ???? Lucky for us, we’d schedule the session after the parade had cleared the Gardiner Expressway. With much anxiety, I was actually able to make it into the city without much trouble! The great thing about having such an big event run simultaneously to our plans, is that there was barely anyone on the Island that day. We had perfect, warm summer weather. The only thing that really deterred us was a bit of flooding in some areas. (The beach was completely submerged in water!) But, considering the amount of rain we had this year, that was pretty much expected.

hot tip: wards island is one of the best locations for views of the Toronto skyline

Soo & Matt were looking for a photo location that incorporated a bit of nature and also a bit of the city as well. I couldn’t think of a location more fitting than Wards Island. The quiet, residential area has less foot traffic than the more visited Centre Island, so it’s a wonderful place for an intimate, low-key session!

Without further ado, here are a few highlights from Soo & Matt’s Wards Island engagement session!

A few seconds after that last shot, the sun came out, and we had the most glorious light for these portraits in front of a lilac bush in full bloom. A little bit of sun makes a huge difference, no?

In case you haven’t noticed, I have a thing for photos of hands. It’s such a simple thing to focus on, but they’re so expressive and beautiful!
